Pre-Earnings Setups: Structure Before Catalyst
Identifying continuation vs confirmation across key names ahead of earnings week

Introduction
This week’s setups are not about predicting earnings outcomes.
They are about understanding structure before the catalyst — so that when earnings hit, the reaction can be interpreted through a clear framework.
Some names are approaching key resistance where confirmation is required.
Others are already holding structure, where continuation is the base case.
The distinction matters:
earnings can accelerate moves, but they do not replace the need for confirmation.
Stage Guide
1 — Pre-breakout (no trigger yet)
2 — Breakout (trigger confirmed)
3 — Post-breakout continuation
4 — Pullback within trend
5 — Breakdown / invalidation
Setups
$AMZN — Stage 1: Pre-breakout (no trigger yet)
Setup type: Trendline breakout attempt
Price pressing into upper channel resistance
Structure constructive, but breakout not confirmed
Actionable? ❌ Not yet
Entry style: Confirmation
Trigger: Weekly close above trendline
Invalidation: Continued rejection at resistance
👉 Acceptance above trendline is required — this remains anticipation
$GOOG — Stage 1: Pre-breakout (no trigger yet)
Setup type: ATH resistance test
Price testing all-time highs with prior rejection visible
Supply still present at current levels
Actionable? ❌ Not yet
Entry style: Confirmation
Trigger: Break and hold above ATH
Invalidation: Rejection and move back into range
👉 This is where anticipation is most dangerous — price is high, but confirmation is absent
$META — Stage 4: Pullback within trend
Setup type: EMA pullback continuation
Clean reaction at 50 EMA support
Trend structure remains intact
Actionable? ✅ Yes
Entry style: Early / pullback
Trigger: Continuation off 50 EMA
Invalidation: Loss of 50 EMA
👉 One of the cleanest continuation setups in the group
$MSFT — Stage 1: Pre-breakout (transition phase)
Setup type: EMA reclaim → resistance test
200 EMA reclaimed
Still facing resistance at 50 EMA
Actionable? ⚠️ Conditional
Entry style: Confirmation
Trigger: Reclaim and hold above 50 EMA
Invalidation: Failure back below 200 EMA
👉 This is a reversal attempt, not a confirmed trend continuation
$AAPL — Stage 3: Post-breakout continuation
Setup type: Continuation → late-stage (post pullback)
Pulled back to 50 EMA and already reacted higher
Trend intact within rising channel
Now approaching prior highs / upper trendline resistance
Actionable? ⚠️ Conditional
Entry style: Confirmation
Trigger: Break above prior highs / channel resistance
Invalidation: Loss of 50 EMA
👉 Pullback opportunity is already behind — continuation now needs confirmation, not anticipation
$HOOD — Stage 1: Pre-breakout (no trigger yet)
Setup type: Failed breakout → re-accumulation attempt
Sharp rejection from prior highs (~150)
Structure damaged, now stabilising
Actionable? ❌ Not yet
Entry style: Confirmation
Trigger: Reclaim of 50 EMA with strength
Invalidation: Continued lower highs
👉 This is structure repair, not continuation
$EIX — Stage 3: Post-breakout continuation
Breakout already confirmed
Setup type: Breakout → consolidation
Clean break above 50 & 200 EMAs
Now holding above structure
Actionable? ✅ Yes
Entry style: Pullback / continuation
Trigger: Continuation from EMA support
Invalidation: Loss of EMAs
👉 Structure-led setup — earnings may influence, but do not define the trade
$BKNG — Stage 1: Pre-breakout (no trigger yet)
Setup type: EMA compression
200 EMA held as support
Still below 50 EMA → trend unresolved
Actionable? ❌ Not yet
Entry style: Confirmation
Trigger: Reclaim of 50 EMA
Invalidation: Breakdown below 200 EMA
👉 Classic squeeze — requires resolution
Setup Classification
Breakout candidates (confirmation required):
AMZN, GOOG, HOOD, BKNG, MSFT
Continuation setups (structure intact):
META, AAPL, EIX
Key Takeaway
Most setups are not actionable yet.
The edge lies in waiting for confirmation, while selectively acting where structure already supports continuation.
